There is a saying in aviation: "Better down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here". It couldn't be more true for the flight conditions I encountered today.

Just some touch & goes |

A busy weekend ahead, no time for extensive flight preparation, so only one thing to do: practice touch & goes.
As take-off and landing are usually the most work-load heavy parts of the flight, just practicing touch & goes is a wonderful way to keep your skills up and have some fun at the same time. And since it does not require hours and hours of preparation, I could enjoy an early flight and be home on time to go to a chocolate workshop of Roald and Jennie with my family. But that's a different story.

As Ange was off to see her friend Ines in Germany, the kids and I had the weekend to ourselves. The kids were in to go flying, and so was my aunt Appie.

I wanted to get some flying time in before my skiing trip to Austria, as I did not want to spend the weekend of my return on flight preparation and flying. I already cancelled my planned flight yesterday, as weather was too poor to my taste. Today the outlook was slightly better, although as I left from home nearby airports were still showing fog and a cloud base at 600 feet.

First time: Nienke in the front seat |

For years Nienke has been pleading to come flying with me by herself. Sure, she's been up a couple of times, but only when Ange and Jamie were also there. I had some doubts on taking her flying by herself since she does not take no for an answer, which can be a potential security hazard when you're a 1000 feet of the ground.
