Yesterday evening at my company, Capgemini, a congress for all project managers in the Netherlands was held. During this congress, all project managers were challenged to come up with ideas for "Winning" (in the broadest sense of the word). Together with 4 collegues, we thought that enhancing our network by contacting previous customers was a good way to go. This will tighten bonds and eventually provide opportunities for new business: a win situation for all involved. The 'Dragons' (consisiting of 2 senior Capgemini project managers and 2 senior project managers from ING) chose our group to have the best idea. Next to the fame & glory, we also get the means and support to implement our idea.
We envisioned that getting back in contact with customers (and actively report back to the community through a blog on Capgemini's project manager community page) will act as an enabler for everyone to win:
- The customer and project manager for enhancing their relationship (increasing inter-human connections is a big personal benefit for all involved);
- The project manager, as he will receive 2 cinema tickets (and could take his customer to the movies); each month the best story will additionally receive a dinner voucher;
- Capgemini, as after one year (we're confident) will show that at least one of these contacts lead to further business.
To make sure this works, we thought up the following rules: the project manager that submits a blog entry will ensure a next project manager (of his/her choice) will also submit a blog entry. Only then the cinema tickets will be rewarded. The challenge now is to set-up the blog and to see if we can indeed push the project manager community to publish a blog entry each week or so. The 5 of us from the winning team have pledged to provide the first 5 stories for the coming 5 weeks.
